NEWSLETTER FOR 2024

Our AGM was held as usual in October with all Trustees present. It was noted that 2024 had been rather a quiet year with grants made only to Hayling Rescue (Frank) and the Thursday Club (ThC).

Incoming funds totaled  £11.008 whilst £11.950 was spent on charitable activities. Donations included nearly £5K from the Winner YC for Frank, £1309 from Roger Palmer's Much Loved Fund, £3K from Life Skills through Sport for the ThC and £579 from HISC. Grants were made to Frank of £7229 for annual rib maintenance and £4293 to the ThC for 2 new oppies and other gear.

Although Youth had not asked for grants this year, the grant the previous year to the 29er fleet was still producing results. The high grade crews were in the top prizes at the World and European Championships etc. and the turnout for the club racing was much improved. One crew member was imbued with sufficient confidence for a weekend training session on a WASZP
Unfortunately there were not many entrants for the recent coaching session which was probably due to the TWISTER that went through the 29er boat park at the beginning of October, damaging all but 4 of the 40 boats in the park.

Having completed its 19th season and after a couple of difficult years post covid, 2024 has seen a return to consistently strong numbers attending ThC and enthusiasm from many of the youngsters to attain their Skill Certifications and develop their knowledge to become AI’s or DI’s. This will enable them to “give something back”. In addition, there has been an increase, albeit small, of volunteers who want to, and some have completed courses to enable them to really help the ongoing work the ThC does. Without volunteers we cannot operate.  Photo below from Mike Massey

Frank

Frank’s rib underwent some extensive, expensive winter maintainance, especailly to the fuel pump which was taken apart and rebuilt. All this work however has kept the rib going and there have been no problems with it for the rest of the year.
